Water turned off so you can’t even get a hot shower after long testing and treatment day at MD Anderson. Don’t stay here

Water turned off in middle of the day for over 4 hours - came back after cancer treatment at MD Anderson and could not take a shower - they said that they would arrange for me to take a shower in another room - left never came back - phone does not work in room to call desk- used cell phone to call and request shower - told me they had shift change - and didn’t know what I was talking about - I am a handicapped person with cancer, my friend traveling with me has congestive heart failure - all we wanted was a hot shower after a long day because we couldn’t shower earlier because water was turned off - we had no clue that the water was not going to be working for 4 plus hours in the middle of the day - said we could move rooms at 11:00 at night - I explained that my friend and I were not physically able to do that - that she already Took her medicine and was down for the night, and might I add that no one offered to help us. Do not stay here if you are older and disabled - they don’t care - all they want is your credit card and then they are done.

Upon arrival at Hotel Ylem at 10:57PM on April 5, 2024, we were shocked to find that the accommodations were substandard in every aspect. Entering the lobby, we found homeless people passed out on the benches in the entryway. Our rooms lacked basic amenities such as towels, chairs, or a desk and had a musty smell. The bathrooms were filthy, and the overall cleanliness of the rooms was unacceptable. Throughout the night, we were disturbed by the sound of rodents or some other creatures crawling in the walls, making it impossible to get any rest. Despite our complaints to the desk clerk, “Jmarti”, during our check-out at 8:45 AM, after six hours in this dump, no adequate solution was provided. She acknowledged the numerous issues we encountered and attributed them to being shorthanded, offering a mere apology for the inconvenience. To add insult to injury, the printer at the front desk was broken, and she was unable to provide us with printed receipts for our stay. Instead, we were forced to take photos of her computer screen, a highly unprofessional and inconvenient solution. We had scheduled for 6 nights and left after 6 hours. Now Expedia is refusing to refund the remining 5 nights we didn't stay as the hotel denies any of this happened. What we learned: Never again stay at the Ylem and never, ever use Expedia again...

A pleasant surprise in the Medical Center/NRG area

We stayed in room 329, non-smoking, 2 Queen beds Comfortable, clean & safe. The 2 queen beds were very comfortable. Location: walking distance to NRG. & close to restaurants, groceries, gas, etc & free parking. The shuttle to & from rodeo/carnival/cookoff was greatly appreciated, especially at night. Free breakfast was good with many options. Bar Esperanto was convenient & the staff were very friendly & helpful there & at the front desk. Plenty of USB & electrical outlets. AC worked well. Good sized bathroom. Microwave & coffee maker, mini fridge, iron & ironing board, ice bucket & hair dryer Only a few suggestions: There are no lamps in the room, so it’s pretty dim when the curtains are closed. An end table next to the chair would be nice to place a drink, book, etc. More than 3 hangers would be helpful. We couldn’t tell if the mini fridge would get any colder. Ice machine on 3rd floor wasn’t working. I would stay here again & recommend it for Medical Center & NRG Events.

We stayed for a visit to MD Anderson for one night. The area of town was a little concerning at first, but it turned out fine. It was super cute and clean. It is obviously currently being renovated, so I assume it's under new ownership. The staff were kind and friendly. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back.

Extremely disappointed with the service of this hotel. After noticing the hotel room was not clean and the bathroom tub was rusting, the headboard was dirty and the bed frame was stained, we asked to be moved to another room. The hotel said that there had no other rooms available and recommended I book another hotel, since they wouldn’t do it for me. There were no managers on site, and did not want to give me a refund as I “didn’t cancel within 48 hours”. I will never book at this hotel again, and highly recommend against others doing it. The pictures on the internet is not an accurate representation of the experience.
